Bowled Over Media were at the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers this week, where children from 30 countries around the world joined together in Slovakia to share their common hobby of bee-keeping and compete to become Young Beekeeper and Team of the year.
Representing Ireland were:
Elizabeth Byrne 13, from County Mayo.
Kristoffer Mackenzie 15, from County Armagh
John Phair 15, from County Offaly.
The children competed in 12 tasks which tested their knowledge and interest in bee-keeping, such as honey extraction, frame building and understanding the communication sounds of bees! and were judged individually and in multi-national teams.
Kristoffer won first place in the team competition! The Individual world bee-keeper of the year was won by Martin Leahy, a teenager from Scotland.
